Distance-time diagrams online

Especially in more recent expert literature, people are increasingly complaining that the distance-time diagram as the perfect presentation of the analysis results is being increasingly disregarded. This may have to do with the fact that creating on on a drawing board in the conventional way or with the programs that are available that reveal a certain amount of complexity (because additional advanced analytical tasks can be carried out with them) , are frequently regarded as 'cumbersome' or time-consuming. DTVD wants to contribute towards alleviating this drawing work with a straightforward and intuitive range of commands and it should also be usable without having to go through long-winded training, especially if you don't create a distance-time diagram every day - which is most probably the case.


Due to the clear structure of DTVD, you will definitely be able to create your first distance-time diagram spontaneously and without long-winded instructions. However, you can find a brief introduction further below explaining the basic set-up, how to handle the coordinate system, the zoom and scale functions and the drawing area that will appear when your diagram is printed out. 

The application is almost fully controlled via the mouse, the mouse buttons, the mouse wheel as well as the icons in the drop-down menu to the left of the screen. The individual functions in the drop-down menu are displayed on the help page on the right-hand side of a menu bar. so that you can find help on the individual functions fast. That will most probably be hardly necessary because the icons make the desired action recognizable.

Quick guide and short introduction

  The center of the application is a Cartesian coordinate system in which the distance is displayed on the x-axis and the time on the y-axis. The coordinate system can be zoomed in and out via the mouse wheel or the menu at the bottom right of the screen as required. The visible section of the diagram can be moved around by holding down the right mouse button. Alternatively you can click on the gray bars surrounding the window and they will trun orange. a

  The coordinate system displayed in the window alone does not determine what should then be printed. For this purpose, there is a piece of paper over the coordinate system that defines the print-out area for the printer. This sheet of paper can be moved and positioned anywhere over the coordinate system. To do this, you right-click somewhere in the window after which a context menu is displayed. If you then select 'Paper position', the paper attaches itself to the cursor and can be positioned by a left-click anywhere you want to.

  The required print size of the paper ranging from ANSI A to ANSI F (in the event of selecting metric units) can be selected under 'Settings' . After doing so, the diagram paper is set accordingly in the window. The print-out format can be changed at any time whilst creating the diagram as soon as you notice that the visible area of your distance-time diagram is insufficient. It is also possible to change between portrait and landscape format at any time. In order to be in the right position, the paper can also be moved again.

The program has been designed to be result-oriented and reacts almost constantly to your request for a function by mouse. The mouse functions are easy to operate put the scope of functions is at the same time very large. 

Properties have been allocated to the elements in your distance-time diagram which can be changed at any time. For example, if you have drawn a black line, you can change the color (and other properties such as line thickness or line type) at any time. To do this, left-click the element you want to change - the line in this example. The line is then selected, a fact you can see by the orange dots that appear. Then select, for example, the color red from the  color chart and the color of the line will change to red. You can change the Line type and the Line thickness in the same way.  Please also take note of the context menu that is displayed when you do a right-click on the selected element. Depending on the possible Properties of the element, you can enter or change  the coordinates or in the case of vehicles, the license plate or driver here. If the element is a course of vehicle calculation, you can select the calculation dialog again and make changes. Do a right-click to deselect a selected element.
